Designing a Secure Multi-Organization Enterprise Architecture
Prior experience. Our founder, Derrick Schmenk, led this work in an in-house leadership role before it was a DIRC client engagement.
Overview
A consulting group operating across three related organizations needed a more secure and scalable enterprise architecture. The organizations needed to collaborate and share resources while maintaining consistent security and appropriate separation between entities.
The challenge
The environment had grown across three organizations with overlapping users, systems, and responsibilities. Teams needed to collaborate across boundaries while protecting sensitive business and client information — raising questions about identity structure, M365 governance, and standardized security policy.
The approach
- Azure and Microsoft 365 architecture planning
- Identity and access structure across three organizations
- Security baseline review and implementation planning
- Administrative role and permission design
- Microsoft 365 collaboration and governance recommendations
- Data protection and scalable architecture for future change
The outcome
- A defined enterprise architecture across three organizations
- Improved Microsoft 365 and Azure governance
- Stronger security and access management practices
- Clearer separation between organizations where needed
- Easier onboarding, offboarding, and administrative control
- A scalable model for future expansion or restructuring
