Building a National ERP and BI Platform Across 60+ Locations
Prior experience. Our founder, Derrick Schmenk, led this work in an in-house leadership role before it was a DIRC client engagement.
Overview
A national waste management organization needed better visibility across more than 60 operating locations. Data lived in multiple systems and reporting varied by location, so leadership lacked a consistent way to understand company-wide performance.
The challenge
With 60+ locations, the organization faced both a scale problem and a data consistency problem. Enterprise reporting required significant manual effort, with data spread across ERP systems, legacy tools, and spreadsheets. Leadership needed national visibility while preserving location-level detail.
The approach
- ERP and financial data integration
- Data modeling across Microsoft Business Central, Microsoft Fabric, Sage Fixed Assets, and supporting sources
- Power BI dashboard development
- Standardized reporting logic for multi-location performance
- Executive, operational, and location-level reporting views
- Process review to reduce duplicate effort
The outcome
- A national ERP and BI reporting foundation across 60+ locations
- Integrated reporting from Business Central, Fabric, Sage Fixed Assets, and related systems
- Improved visibility into financial and operational performance
- Reduced manual effort for recurring reports
- More consistent metrics across locations and departments
- A platform that scales with new locations and priorities
